Sound Check: Work With What You Got

PLAY // Work With What You Got

My man isn’t scheduled to deploy for quite some time, and we have no babies (yet). And even though Navy life for us has been inconvenient and a pain in the keester at times, I am in awe of the women (and men too!) who juggle life with work, kids, and a deployed spouse all at the same time.

This tune by Socalled will be on standby for those days in the not-so-distant-future when being apart from my best friend has worn me down to a fray, or I want to punch the Tricare website (all three of them) in the proverbial face, or I just need a reminder that, sometimes, all you can do is Work with What You Got.

Abundance

This is our grapefruit tree. It’s so lovely, but I can never figure out what to do with all that fruit. Other than give it away in bags to friends (who usually can’t figure out what to do with all that fruit).

So I went on a Pinterest search, and here are some of the goodies I’m looking forward to trying. Don’t they sound delicious?

Grapefruit, kale, & fennel salad.

Grapefruit margarita.

Grapefruit olive oil pound cake.

Grapefruit brûlée!

The Bedside

I love that our bedroom is clean, minimal, and calming. It’s one of my favorite rooms, and our bedside tables reflect the simplicity I try to keep. Just a simple framed photo, a candle, a lamp. Sometimes fresh sprigs of something from the farmer’s market. A small basket I found at Home Goods is perfect for magazines and letter writing necessities.

For the hubby’s bedside table I recently found this amazing print from Scout’s Honor, which I hope is an inspiring reminder for him every morning.

I’m New Here.

I'm_new_here

My husband joined the Navy seven months ago. Formerly a beach lifeguard in San Diego and 29 years old, it was a dramatic shift for him, and definitely for our lifestyle.

The military is a brand new world to me. The acronyms, the bureaucracy, and the lifestyle in general have been somewhat intimidating… But there is such beauty in the strength and dedication I see in the wives and families of those who serve, and I want to learn from them. And I want to share the beautiful things I find in everyday life.

I hope you’ll come back and visit me often, and share with me! I have a lot to learn.
